The Design
The designers started working on TT`s design in September 1994 in Californian Semi Valley design center. Audi TT coupe was introduced during Frankfort Motor Show a year later. TT-Roadster named TTS was introduced during a motor show in Tokyo a bit later the same year. Guests` and journalists` rave reviews helped the company`s management to decide putting this model in production without considerable changes. Only three years later (it was autumn of 1998) a coupe provided with a 1.8-liter turbo-charged motor was introduced. It put out either 132 kilowatt or 165 kilowatt, which is 180 hp and 225 hp respectively. Nevertheless, TTS was replaced by TT-Roadster in a year.
Audi TT models` name has to do with sports traditions of DKW (German automobile union) NSU (English Tourist Trophy) while "TT" abbreviation means Tradition und Technik (traditions and technics).
The chassis and the body of the model were restyled two years after it was put on the market. All the models were provided with a small rear spoiler and ESP system. However ESP reduced ride performance and was even the cause of several accidents.
Audi TT, 2006 model year
Audi TT Coupe automobile`s successor was introduced on April 8, 2006. New technologies have been developed along with a few exterior and interior design changes. This is first of all Audi magnetic ride. What is more, new TT boasts of steel and aluminium combination that lightens the vehicle. There was 200-horsepower 2.0-liter TFSI motor and 250-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 engine available when Audi was just put on the market. Both models are provided with a double-disk clutch gearbox. This clutch is known as S tronic and it used to be called DSG. New TT Roadster is on the market since March, 2007.
