Audi Q7 Technologies

Starting from 2005 Q7 is provided either with 6-cylinder diesel engine or with 8-cylinder gasoline-powered one. In the beginning of 2007 6-cylinder 3.6-liter gasoline-powered engine is introduced and it is followed by 326-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 TDI introduced in the middle of 2007. This one is the most capacious diesel engine from all diesel engines serial models are provided with. What is more, Audi announced producing V12 500 hp diesel engine as well as a hybrid version in 2008. The hybrid version is supposed to be based on the platform of 4.2-liter gasoline-powered engine. They also promised to produce a car provided with V10-FSI (470 hp).

Audi Q7 Hybrid prototype was first showed during Frankfort motor show of 2005. It was promised to be made serial in 2007. This 4.2-liter V8 FSI motor will boast of 257 kilowatt (350 hp) and of 440 Nm peak torque.

This is a hybrid type automobile that can assure low speed ride thanks to the adhesion between the internal-combustion engine and an electric motor.

The top capacity of this electric motor is 32 kw and its peak torque makes up 200 Nm. Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery will be used as energy storage system and it will be placed in the luggage compartment. A great advantage Q7 Hybrid can boast of is a full-time all-wheel drive, what is more, this electric motor can regenerate the energy produced while braking and therefore recharges the battery.

Q7 is provided with a 6-speed automatic gearbox Tiptronic while a manual gearbox is available as an option for a 3.6-liter gasoline-powered engine only.

3.0-liter diesel engines` emission level is 282 g CO2 per kilometer while 3.0-liter gasoline-powered ones` is 326 g CO2.
