Audi A6 Technologies
New A6 is 12 cm longer if compared with its predecessor and therefore it`s only a bit smaller than luxury cars (4.93x1.86x1.46 meters). 83 mm wheelbase extension was a great piece of news both for the back and for the front seat passengers. Large vee-type grille (it resembles legendary Auto Union race cars` grille) turned out to be the most impressive exterior element.
The model`s interior was also considerably restyled. The designers left behind a traditional cockpit arrangement and therefore the instrumentation panel and the central cantilever seem to be visually combined. The cantilever is kind of looking at the driver and the market researchers once again say about "sporty" position of Audi in Volkswagen Audi Group concern.
The instruments are rather unusual ones although being at the same places they used to have been: speedometer and tachometer are in two irregular-shaped "wells" and feature accessory indicators. There is also no usual hand brake in the saloon, it was replaced by an electro-mechanical one (the same Audi A8 features).
There are three gasoline powered and two turbo-charged diesel engines in the range. The most capacious version is provided with 335-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 engine.
New V6 3.2 FSI (255 hp) engine is the second most capacious while 177-horsepower 2.4-liter V6 engine is the simplest one. Diesel engines admirers can choose either a 140-horsepower 2.0-liter motor or a 225-horsepower 3.0-liter one.
Only the most capacious modifications can be provided with a brand all-wheel drive Quattro transmission unitized with an automatic gearbox while standard versions go with 2.0 TDI or 2.4 V6 engines (they both feature front-wheel drive and manual gearbox). Two-lever schemes are used both for front and rear suspensions just as it used to be: a four-lever front suspension combined with a vee-type rear levers.
New Audi A6 is a harmonious combination of impetuous engines and athletic design, of unique equipment and innovative technologies.
