Audi A4 B5 (8D type)

Audi 4 can be either a limo (4 doors) or a station wagon (5 doors) both marked Audi 4 Avant.

Audi 80 cabriolets were still in production along with Audi 4 till summer of 2000. Audi 80 was the previous model in the range and its sports cars (S2 and RS2) were also in production till the end of 1995.

Audi 4 is serially produced featuring front-wheel drive, however all-wheel drive is an option available called "quattro". All S/RS versions have this type of drive from the very beginning.

"Audi duo" automobile provided with hybrid engine based on A4 Avant was introduced in October of 1997. It was provided with an electromotor of 21 kilowatt along with 1.9 L TDI of 66 kilowatt. However this model didn`t arouse admiration in Germany as it cost 60 000 DM. Only 100 automobiles were sold and even that was easy to have done. This Audi was taken out of production in July 1998.

Period of production:

Limos: 11/1994 - 10/2000
Station wagons: 01/1996 - 06/2001

Audi A4 B6 (8E/8H type)

B6 has two new engines along with several well-known ones of the previous series, they are: 4-cylinder 2.0-liter in-line motor (96 kilowatt/130 hp) and 6-cylinder 3.0-liter V-engine (163 kilowatt/220 hp). Both motors feature 5 valves per cylinder and are made of aluminum alloy using newest technologies.

B6 was the first front-wheel drive model to be provided with a continuously variable automatic transmission Multitronic. All-wheel drive models can boast of a five-speed automatic gearbox Tiptronic only.

Emergency safety system, ESP, ABS, brake system, and noise insulation were improved. The body became 45% more rigid. Serial and optional equipment was also changed considerably.

Lighting is now switched on with the help of a turn switch placed in the left side of the panel. All gasoline engines starting from 1.8T boast of two exhaust pipes placed from the right and from the left. Meanwhile, diesel models` exhaust pipe is hidden under the rear bumper.

New navigation system featuring 6.5-inch color display was introduced in the end of 2003 (the previous one boasted of 5 inches). There was a DVD disk drive installed instead of a cassette recorder. It boasted of MP3 as a function and MMI system. The CD-changer is a two-disk one.

A4 B6 can be either a limo (4 doors) or a station wagon (5 doors) just like his predecessor. A cabriolet Audi A4 8H based on Audi A4 platform was first introduced in the April of 2002. Audi cabriolet was previously based on Audi 80 platform. B5 and B6 weren`t put on the market the same year as B5 station wagon was introduced and taken out of production a year later than a limo.

Period of production:

Limo: 10/2000 - 11/2004
Station wagon: 09/2001 - 11/2004
Cabriolet: 04/2002 - 01/2006

Audi A4 B7 (8E/8H)

Steering gear`s, chassis`, and brakes` strengthening was made. B7 color range was renewed just before putting it in serial production.

B7 was the first Audi A4 model to be provided with a rain sensor. The automobiles with xenon headlamps are now serially provided with day light movement lamps. Reflect headlamps replaced pillow-like halogen lamps.

Diesel engines could have been optionally provided with a dust filter DPF till the end of 2005. Starting from 2006 serial cars were being provided with this filter. The motor range was a bit changed in the middle of 2006.

Audi A4 is serially provided with a front-wheel drive. New "Quattro" drive is optionally available. S and RS models are serially provided with an all-wheel drive. 2.0 TFSI E model was introduced in the beginning of 2007 ("E" stands for "economy").

Data panel now informs the driver that a gear is on. Six-gear now offers better possibilities. The engine cowling is now made of aluminium. The automobile boasts of improved tires. What is more, aerodynamic parts were first used (S line package). Therefore 170-horsepower limited 2.0-liter turbo-charged diesel engine produces 169 g of CO2/km (limo) and 171 g CO2km (Avant).

1.9 TDI E provided with a 6-speed gearbox should have been introduced in the middle of 2007.

S4 version boasts of 344 hp just as its predecessor and this concerns all three body types.

A4 DTM model was introduced in the mid 2005. It is a limo (turbo-charged motor, 2.0L, 220 hp). This automobile must be a reminder of Audi progress at DTM races because of its unique look. 420-horsepower RS4 limo was introduced in the end of 2005 and it cost about 69 000 euro. RS4 Avant and RS4 cabriolet are put on the market in the mid 2006.

Period of production:

Limo: 11/2004
Station wagon: 11/2004
