Audi 80 Technologies
An all-wheel drive modification (1986) traditionally labeled as Quattro was introduced after production of the main modification (1972). Rugged and rather corrosion-resistant galvanized body is worth paying attention to. Suspension construction assures smooth running and consequently, additional comfort both for the driver and for the passengers. The steering is manual however really sensitive. Extremely small trunk (425 liters only) is an unquestionable disadvantage of all model`s modifications, besides not every modification can boast of a steering booster.
The automobiles are provided either with 75-horsepower 1.6-liter carburetor engine or with 90-horsepower 1.8-liter carburetor engine that both feature central injection and a catalyst. 112-horsepower 1.8-liter and 113-horsepower 1.9-liter injection-type engines are also provided with a carburetor. The model can also be provided with a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter diesel engine that produces 54 hp. The cars provided with this engine have for a long time been the most economic automobiles among large cars.
In 1988 Audi 80 is provided with a 4-cylinder 113-horsepower engine of almost 2 liters. That was also the time when a 80-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo-charged diesel engine was put into production (there was also a 75-horsepower diesel engine provided with a catalyst produced). What is more, a 69-horsepower 1.9-liter engine entered the modification range.
Some time later Audi 80 Avant station wagons were put into production. In 1992 first five-door Audi cars were introduced and this had to do with a growing demand on the so-called family cars. These models` trunk (370 liters) could have been twice or thrice extended when the rear seats half or completely unfolded. Such parameters already allow transporting some heavier loads. Audi 80 Avant model was recognized as a car for active rest as it boasts of improved integral transmission and of a 6-cylinder 150-horsepower 2.6-liter V-engine provided with an injector. A new 174-horsepower 2.8-liter engine was introduced in a year. The automobile needed only 13 liters per 100 km taking into consideration its specifications.
4-door Audi 80 (B4) was taken out of production in the end of 1994 and it was the turn of Audi Avant two years later.
