Audi 100 Technologies
Audi 100 history can be believed to have formally started in 1969 when the first model was introduced.
However these first modifications produced before 1976 weren`t used as a platform for the later produced automobiles. They boasted of some technical and designer solutions that weren`t reflected in a single car afterwards.
The beginning of the 70ies was the time was the foundation of a large car concept was laid.
The first automobiles of the next Audi 100 generation were produced in 1976. New model reminded Audi 80 even technically.
Both models` construction was based on the front McPherson suspension while the rear suspension was semi-independent based on trailing arms and featured Panhard rod.
The new model was rather a unique one it was for the first time in the world that a mass produced car was provided with a 5-cylinder 2.2-liter gasoline powered engine. Such a solution allowed combining fuel economy 4 cylinders assure and capacity 6 cylinders provide.
This very model became the typical feature to characterize Audi 100 range. In 1978 first Audi 100 provided with a diesel engine are produced.
